DESCRIPTION: Hamilton, Model 21 marine chronometer, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, 56-hour power reserve winding indicator, original gimbaled brass tub within brass-mounted and banded inner mahogany box with gilt Hamilton signature plate and plastic U.S. Maritime Commission signature plate, outer mahogany box with gilt Hamilton signature plate, leather strap, silvered dial of approximately 4 inch diameter, marked "U.S. Maritime Commission" within seconds-register, KWKS, fully capped spring detent escapement, 14J, mono-metallic free-sprung balance with helical Elinvar hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#2E10668. Per Marvin Whitney's "Military Timepieces" the total production of the Model 21 marine chronometer was 13087 made, of which 1500 were purchased by the Maritime Commission. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered small spots and mild fine scratches; excellent dial with some mild perimeter wear under bezel; near mint hands; brass tub and gimbals with some scattered mild oxide spotting, good beveled glass crystal; inner box in near mint cosmetic condition overall, some mild fine scratches; outer box in excellent cosmetic condition overall, scattered scratches to upper portion with majority being to top, some small spots of finish loss, leather strap showing little wear.
